If you are a true believer in that the religion of Jehovah’s Witnesses is the one true religion on earth, then I urge you to carefully watch this video put out by JW.org and presented as part of the Pure Worship Regional Convention of 2025. Don’t just watch it, but obey the counsel it gives you to follow. Now it may seem strange that I should be encouraging you to obey the instructions of the Governing Body, but in this instance, what they are unwittingly telling you to do will open your eyes to the truth.
The video runs just over two minutes. It’s titled, “Why do you believe what you believe?”
Here’s how it starts:
“Why do you believe what you believe? In many cases, it may be a matter of what your parents taught you.”
That’s true in my case. I was one year old when my father was baptized in 1950 as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. I grew up believing I was in the one true religion on earth, and that the end of the system of things would come while I was still in school.
“Or simply of where or when you were born. So if you had grown up in another place or a different time, you may have developed a very different set of beliefs. But does the truth about God really depend on when or where we live? Does it seem logical that multiple conflicting beliefs about God could all be true? Is it possible that the truth is something different from what you were taught?”
This video asks you a valid question, but as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, you are expected to see it as a way to help people examine whatever false religion they were brought up in and see that only Jehovah’s Witnesses have pure worship. But, if that is true, then you should have no concern in asking yourself that question the narrator just asked: “Is it possible the truth is something different from what you were taught?”
“Just because someone claims to represent God does not mean that his claim is true.”
Again, the narrator of the video makes a truthful statement. “Just because someone claims to represent God, does not mean that his claim is true.” The men of the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses claim to be the channel Jehovah is using to convey Bible truth and understanding to his people today, but as the narrator just reasoned, just making that claim doesn’t make it true.
“The God of the Bible once told one of his worshippers, The prophets are prophesying lies in my name. I have not sent them.”
The video expresses a valid concern you should consider. If someone who is speaking in the name of Jehovah God tells you things that turn out to be untrue, then they are lying and were not sent to you by Jehovah God.
“For centuries, people misrepresented what the Bible says about God and used religious teachings in an effort to control people and to make money. With good reason, then, the Bible says, Prove to yourselves the good and acceptable and perfect will of God. If you are searching for the truth about God, why not examine what the Bible says for yourself?”
Again, excellent counsel is being given to you in this video. “Why not examine what the Bible says for yourself?”
“If you are searching for the truth about God, why not examine what the Bible says for yourself? Doing so does not mean abandoning your culture. Millions of people from all over the world and from different backgrounds and cultures have discovered that the Bible contains the truth about God.”
Full disclosure here. It is true that the Bible contains the truth about God. It is also true that merely examining the Bible does not mean abandoning your culture. But what if your examination leads you to truth about God that differs from what your culture teaches? My culture was the world of Jehovah’s Witnesses. All my friends were Jehovah’s Witnesses. I lived by the laws and rules for conduct that were explained to me through the publications of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Then one day, I followed the counsel from the Bible that the narrator just read to us.
“Prove to yourselves the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (Romans 12:2)
The result was the total loss of my lifelong culture. I was thrown out of the only environment I’d ever known and rejected by all the people I loved.
“They have found a sense of purpose in worshiping God in a way that they know pleases him.”
This is true. What the narrator says is true. Examining the Bible for yourself and learning the truth it contains will give you a sense of purpose that pleases God. It is more rewarding beyond anything you can imagine. The Apostle Paul had to abandon his culture and people when he found the truth, but he said that what he left behind was just a heap of garbage.
“What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ.” (Philippians 3:8 NIV)
I like the way the Aramaic Bible in Plain English puts it: “I consider it all as a dung heap, that I may gain The Messiah,”
“To learn more about what the Bible says on this and many other topics, go to JW.org.”
The video closes by pointing you to JW.org to understand what the Bible says. If you are one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, then I encourage you to do this as well. But remember, the video told you to examine the Bible for yourself. So, take what you’ve been taught by JW.org and apply Romans 12:2 and prove for yourself from the Bible that what you’ve been taught is true and that what Jehovah told Jeramiah does not apply to the teachings of JW.org.
For example, you’ve been taught that the other sheep are a class of Christian with an earthly hope, who are not children of God, but only God’s friends, and who do not have Jesus as their mediator and who are prohibited from partaking of the emblems. So, go to JW.org and find the proof for that teaching from the Bible. Not from the publications of JW.org. Not from the reasoning and the logic of JW.org, but from the Bible itself. Where does the Bible actually say that?
Other topics you can examine are:
Where does the Bible teach the 1914 invisible presence of Christ?
That the first resurrection happened in 1918?
That there was no faithful and discreet slave until 1919?
That you must make a vow of dedication to be baptized.
There is much more, but that would be a good start. Yes, please apply the counsel of this video. If you do it honestly, you’ll find the irony is astonishing.
