The Two-Witness Rule under the Microscope

…not provide a clear-cut exception to the two witness rule, and is itself debatable. 14. Implementation of the two witness rule as interpreted by WT has caused harm and has prevented perpetrators from being held accountable. 15. If the two witness rule is not currently in effect, reasons for claiming this are hard to convincingly establish scripturally. 16. Efforts to question the two witness rule can lead to counter-intuitive results that imply the Bible is incomplete or incorrect, which adherents of the Bible would reject out of hand. 17. The Bible establishes that the Christian arrangement is the end of…

Applying the Two-Witness Rule Equitably

…was repentant, but they were not allowed to judge the repentance they witnessed. According to the rule, they had to judge whether he was repentant at the time of the original hearing. Since they were not there, they had to rely on witnesses. The only witnesses were the three elders of the original committee and the young man himself. Now let’s apply the two-witness rule. For the appeal committee to accept the young man’s word they would have to judge that the older men of the original committee had acted improperly. They would have to accept an accusation against, not…

…mandate from God to exercise justice and the man would be stoned. To demand a second witness would be to disobey the very intent of this particular legal provision. However, this is not really the issue, and so we come to the second key point. The issue is that the rule of two-witnesses within the Christian congregation has to do with resolving conflicts only. If there are legal disputes between brothers involving contractual issues, or slander, or abuse of power, then the two-witness rule comes into play. (See Mt 18:15-17; 2Co 13:1; 1Ti 5:19) Paul counsels the Corinthians to resolve…

…world’s media that we do harm by sticking unbendingly to the “two-witness rule”. In line with the theocratic warfare mindset, he withholds a number of truths from the audience. He reads from Deuteronomy 19:15 to support the Organization’s position, but doesn’t go on reading the next verses that discuss how Israelites were to handle situations where there was only one witness; nor does he discuss Deuteronomy 22:25-27 which provides an exception to the two-witness rule. Instead, he cherry-picks a verse from Matthew 18:16 where Jesus speaks of two witnesses, claiming this allows a transition from the Mosaic Law into the…

Jehovah’s Witnesses and Child Sexual Abuse: Why Is the Two-Witness Rule a Red Herring?

Jehovah’s Witnesses and Child Sexual Abuse: Why Is the Two-Witness Rule a Red Herring?

https://youtu.be/IEvsuKnK1J4 Hello, I’m Meleti Vivlon. Those who protest the horrendous mishandling of child sexual abuse among the leadership of Jehovah’s Witnesses frequently harp on the two-witness rule. They want it gone. So why am I calling the two-witness rule, a red herring? Am I defending the Organization’s position? Absolutely not! Do I have a better alternative? Yes, I think so. Let me start out by saying that I have to really admire those dedicated individuals who spend their time and money in such a worthy cause. I really want those people to succeed because so many have suffered and are…

Q. “Extenuating circumstances”? A. Under improper circumstances. Q. So a second witness to circumstantial or corroborating evidence would be sufficient to fulfil the second witness requirement? A. That’s a very large question and I think it’s something that we would need to consider carefully. Q. Well, it’s just important as to whether the second witness has to be a witness to…

Love and Justice in Ancient Israel – (Part 1 of 4)

…when required. And that has been replaced by the Kingly Law of Love, (James 2:8) which is supported and has Gods backing. As already brought out by the comments of others, righteousness is proved by the works or results. The results of the 2 witness rule are horrendous! Anyone supporting it and adding to the horror surely must bear responsibility before Jehovah. I would now like to discuss Matthew 18:15-17. With reference to the JW broadcast VDO doubling down on the 2 witness rule and used as evidence that the 2 witness rule in the Mosaic Law is re-stated for…

…of Israel. Since we claim that the nation of Israel was Jehovah’s earthly organization, it follows that its rulers—its governing body—were the Priests, Scribes, Sadducees, and Pharisees. These are the “rulers of this system of things” to whom Paul refers. Thus, when we read this passage, let us not restrict our thinking to political rulers of today, but include those who are the religious rulers; for it is the religious rulers who should be a position to understand “God’s wisdom in a sacred secret, the hidden wisdom” of which Paul speaks. Do the rulers of the Jehovah’s Witnesses system of…

…than empower Organization Leadership. It justifies the very name, Jehovah’s Witnesses, for what are they bearing witness to, if not that Jehovah’s rule is better than Satan’s? If Jehovah’s rule does not need to be vindicated, if the purpose of the Bible is not to prove His rule is better than Satan’s, then there is no “universal court case”[2] and no need of witnesses for God.[3] Neither He nor his method of governing are on trial. At the close of the second article, questions were posed as to the true nature of the sovereignty of God. Is it just like…

…can tell you many elders do not agree with the unscriptural application of this rule when it comes to reporting a crime. They, as myself, are prepared to resign if involved in a judicial case involving child abuse and are told by Branch legal not to report it. These same elders (I’m certain there are more) are also prepared to speak very openly to any family with children in the congregation, whether or not Branch legal has so advised. So while the GB is standing their ground with the two-witness rule for legal reasons (they do not want to appear…

Do Jehovah’s Witnesses have “a Disapproved Mental State”?

…their interpretation of the “two-witness rule” requires that there be two “eyewitnesses” to an incident of child rape, so even with overwhelming forensic evidence, the elders cannot act if the only eyewitness testimony comes from the victim. Now you see what they meant when they wrote that they “are making determined efforts to protect Jehovah’s people from sexual predators, at the same time holding to his standard and principles as set forth in the Bible.” In other words, they must hold to their interpretation of what the Bible says about the two-witness rule, even though that might result in a…

She said that she has heard nothing at all from the witnesses and that she is really struggling. Witnesses always talk about giving a witness to non witnesses. By default then, you have an earthly hope. “The spirit itself bears witness with our spirit that we are God’s children.” (Ro 8:16) How then does the spirit bear witness. Why not let the Bible tell us. “When the helper arrives that I will send YOU from the Father, the spirit of the truth, which proceeds from the Father, that one will bear witness about me; 27 and YOU, in turn, are to bear witness, because YOU have been with me from when I began.” (Joh…

A Jehovah’s Witnesses Elder Is Tried for Apostasy

…time when I would state that I was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, but I never thought of that as stating I was a member of any organization. At that time, I understood Isaiah 43:10 to apply to my preaching work and I used the term Jehovah’s Witness in a literal sense. I was bearing witness to my Creator. For the record, I no longer hold to that understanding of Isaiah 43:10, which I now believe applies to literal Israel as a witness to God’s deliverance. I was never a member of a religious organization, nor have I ever believed that…

Notice also Jesus view about two witnesses in John 8:17-18, “17 Also, in YOUR own Law it is written, ‘The witness of two men is true.’18 I am one that bears witness about myself, and the Father who sent me bears witness about me.” Here, the second witness, Jehovah, was a witness about Jesus being the Christ, not what actions and things Jesus taught that gave witness that he was the Messiah. (A character witness, that Jesus was not lying in what he said). At least one positive item is the last part of the same paragraph (15)…

Why Do Jehovah’s Witnesses Preach the Vindication of Jehovah’s Sovereignty?

…restored in “Heaven”. Jehovah’s Witnesses live and service on earth to living human beings where Satan’s influence has to a certain level removed Jehovah’s sovereignty. Jehovah’s sovereignty will be vindicated regardless of any persons decision to use their free will wisely after being witnessed. Thus, your comment on the vindication being “an inadvertent one” is correct because Jehovah “will” vindicate Jehovah’s sovereignty, but your comment on Jehovah’s Witnesses question being “a veiled insult” is just wrong. When a person is being witnessed, it is not only for Jehovah and the Jehovah’s Witness, but for the person being witnessed. The vindication…

Jehovah’s Witnesses And Blood – Part 1

…do Jehovah’s Witnesses deal with this issue [that is, the blood prohibition]? Do Jehovah’s Witnesses require or compel someone not to accept a specific medical treatment or a blood transfusion? The categorical, clear and straight answer to this issue is NO! Jehovah’s Witnesses do not oblige, require or demand on behalf of anyone to accept or not to accept a particular medical treatment. Each Jehovah’s Witness decides for himself/herself, based on his/her conscience [this is a LIE since the individual can only use his conscience in relation to fractions and not whole blood] and the Bible, regardless of which Bible…

…respecting any error or any sin. At the mouth of two witnesses or at the mouth of three witnesses the matter should stand good.” This is used to support the ‘two witness rule’. Yet the following four verses (the context) deal with exactly how the Israelite judges could handle an accusation with just one witness. So with only one witness to a sin/crime does verse 15 exclude any further action and mandate that nothing can be done? No! Verse 15 is describing the recommendation that ideally additional witnesses should be available wherever possible to avoid any miscarriage of justice. Verse…

The Spirit Bears Witness – How?

…at this hour,…which is a proof of the fact we are near the end. Revelation talks about a huge miracle at the end; “My Two Witnesses” (R.11) This is a period of world-wide witnessing that resembles the 10 Plagues of Egypt witness, and it will be a no-holds-barred showdown between the last world-power, the 8th king-beast and Christianity. Many truths about Father Jah, Christ, the anointing, and all major teachings, (Trinity, Hellfire, soul) will no doubt be displayed along with the witness of the power of the holy spirit-miracles, I believe. This will help millions become Christians…a veritable ‘harvest’ of…

Question from Readers – Deuteronomy 22:25-27 and Two Witnesses

…Deuteronomy 22:22 deals with the scenario where a man was caught “in inflagrante delicto” with a married woman. Here, there might be only the one witness, although the finder could potentially call for others to witness the compromising situation. However, the compromising position which they should not have been in (a man alone with a married woman who was not her husband) and one witness was sufficient to establish guilt. One witness to compromising position of married woman alone with a man who was not her husband was sufficient. Both man and married woman received the same punishment. A judgement…

Yes, everyone has their own path to walk and I viewed this as possibly my final opportunity to speak out as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses (1 Pet 3:14-17 Passion Translation). Opening the door, I was faced with a four-elder Judicial Committee and then a succession of eight witnesses who testified against me for a period of over seven hours. These witnesses were confined to the main hall for the rest…

…top of the JW ladder. Only those so chosen can claim to be adopted children of God. (The rest can only call themselves “God’s friends.”[ii]) Additionally, within the Catholic Church, the clergy/laity distinction does not affect the reward each Catholic is said to receive. Whether priest, bishop, or lay person, all good people are believed to go to heaven. However, among Witnesses this is not the case. The clergy/laity distinction persists after death, with the elite going to heaven to rule, while the remainder—about 99.9% of all those considered to be true and faithful Christians—having another 1,000 years of imperfection…

Wasn’t there a guy who died beside Jesus who repented at the last minute and was forgiven?” The Witness shakes his head sagely, “Yes, but that was then. Different rules apply for the Great Tribulation. There will be no chance of repentance then.”[i] What do you think of our little scenario. Everything I’ve had our Witness say in this dialogue is completely accurate and in line with the teachings found in the publications of the Organization of Jehovah’s Witnesses….

Except for a tiny few, the Jews did not believe in the name of Jesus. The situation with the nation of Israel—or as Witnesses like to call it, God’s earthly organization—is so similar to that of Jehovah’s Witnesses that the parallels are chilling. The other thing going on is that some Christians who are God’s children will also be allowed to rule on the earth, at some future date, during the 1000 year reign. We can see a hint of that when it says, Many are called but few are chosen. Yes, many are called to be Christians, but few are chosen to be co-rulers with Christ. The exact number of those co-rulers is unknown, and the 144,000 number is symbolic of that number. The true number could be more or less than…

Is the Shunning Policy practiced by Jehovah’s Witnesses their version of the Hellfire Doctrine?

How the “Shunning” practiced by Jehovah’s Witnesses compares to the Hellfire doctrine. Years ago, when I was a full-fledged Jehovah’s Witness, serving as an elder, I met a fellow witness who had been a Muslim in Iran before converting. This was the first time I had ever met a Muslim who had become a Christian, let alone a Jehovah’s Witness. I had to ask what motivated him to convert given the risk, since Muslims who convert often experience an extreme form of disfellowshipping…you know, they kill them. Once he moved to Canada, he had the freedom to convert. Still, the…

…for? If non-witnesses are also going to survive Armageddon, or if those killed in that war receive a resurrection, then what’s it all about? Yet, that is essentially the Good News that Witnesses preach. From The Watchtower of September 1, 1989 page 19: “Only Jehovah’s Witnesses, those of the anointed remnant and the “great crowd,” as a united organization under the protection of the Supreme Organizer, have any Scriptural hope of surviving the impending end of this doomed system dominated by Satan the Devil.” From The Watchtower of August 15, 2014, page 21: “In effect, Jesus also conveys Jehovah’s voice…

Why Does God Allow a Man of Lawlessness?

…at first to be connected with our discussion, but bear with me a little bit.) Like all Jehovah’s Witnesses, I have been taught that the theme of the Bible is God’s sovereignty. We are told that “sovereignty” = “right to rule”. Satan challenged not God’s power to rule, but the morality and rectitude of his rule—therefore, his moral right to rule. All the suffering down through the ages documented in Scripture is supposedly a series of historical object lessons demonstrating that only Jehovah can rule for the benefit of humankind. Working on this premise, once it has been proven to…

The Judicial System of Jehovah’s Witnesses: From God or Satan?

…the two-witness rule, the Bible says: “Do not accept an accusation against an older man except on the evidence of two or three witnesses.” (1 Timothy 5:19) If the appeal committee is to follow the Bible rule, they cannot ever accept the word of the disfellowshipped one no matter how credible it may be, because he is only one witness against not one but three older men. And why are there no witnesses to corroborate his testimony? Because the rules of the Organization prohibit observers and recordings. The process is designed to guarantee that the decision to disfellowship cannot be…

Do they persecute the individual to the extent the law of the land permits, cutting him off from family and friends? Can Jehovah’s Witnesses honestly say they love truth when they are presented with irrefutable evidence of it and yet continue teaching falsehood under the disclaimer, “We should wait on Jehovah”?[i] If Jehovah’s Witnesses love truth, then it follows that their work is from God and cannot be overthrown….

…his followers. God and Christ do not need our help to govern mankind. Further, if the “144,000” rule for 1,000 years, what happens in year 1,001? Do they stand in the unemployment line? When Christ hands over his rulership so that God is all things to everyone, those human kings won’t be needed anymore. So what will they do in heaven then? Sit on clouds and play harps (or maybe video games)? It just doesn’t make any sense. In contrast, earth’s population *would* need guidance from human rulers with whom they could talk and discuss how earth’s affairs should be…

…with Jesus in heaven” [bold ours]. The footnote referenced to “anointed by Holy Spirit” states “Jehovah uses his holy spirit to select a person to rule with Jesus in heaven. By means of his spirit, God gives that person a promise for the future, or “a token in advance.” (Eph. 1:13, 14) These Christians can say that the holy spirit “bears witness,” or makes clear, to them that their reward is in heaven.—Romans 8:16.”. Both these statements are half truths and the scriptures cited support half of the statement. Ephesians 1:13-14 does state that “By means of his spirit, God…

…upon which sit chief angels or archangels comprising the foremost angelic princes, and Michael is one of them, but before them stands the Lamb who is Jesus together with the children of God taken from the earth to rule with Christ. From all the foregoing, it is now safe to say that there is nothing in Scripture to indicate there is only one chief angel, only one archangel, as the Organization claims. Can one be a chief or ruler of the angels without being an angel oneself? Of course, God is the ultimate chief or ruler of the angels, but…

Spread the Good News of Undeserved Kindness

…article quotes Paul at Acts 20:24 where he speaks of bearing “thorough witness to the good news of the undeserved kindness of God.” This is then equated to the good news of the kingdom that Jehovah’s Witnesses preach. This good news concerns “the blessings we hope to receive under Kingdom rule.” Paul’s message wasn’t about the hope of living under Kingdom rule. It was about inheriting the Kingdom as rulers. This is evident when one reads just a few verses down from Acts 20:24. After warning about “oppressive wolves” who would speak “twisted things to draw away disciples after themselves”…

…leaders of the work. The result? The Christian argument of the defendants was only partially recognized and some guilt was attributed to them in the question of refusing military service. As a result, a serious risk loomed over the work of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Switzerland, that of a formal ban by the government. If that had been the case, the Witnesses would have lost the last office still officially operating on the European continent. This would have seriously threatened assistance for Witness refugees from Nazi-ruled countries as well as clandestine efforts on behalf of victims of persecution in Germany. It…

We recommend that the Jehovah’s Witness organisation abandon its application of the two-witness rule in cases involving complaints of child sexual abuse (Recommendation 16.27), revise its policies so that women are…

The Judicial System of Jehovah’s Witnesses (Part 2): Shunning…is this what Jesus wanted?

https://youtu.be/3wgqpxF4GwQ Hello, my name is Eric Wilson. One of the practices which has resulted in an enormous amount of criticism of Jehovah’s Witnesses is their practice of shunning anyone who leaves their religion or who is expelled by the elders for what is considered by them to be unchristian conduct. There is currently a case schedule to go before the court in Belgium in February of 2021 in which the organization of Jehovah’s Witnesses is being accused of engaging in hate crimes, to a large degree due to their shunning policy. Now, Jehovah’s Witnesses don’t mind this criticism. They wear…

…is of no consequence here. The fact is they wanted to know when Christ would begin ruling as king over Israel. Since Jerusalem was the seat of Israel’s government, this event would mark the end of the trampling of Jerusalem, which is what they were anticipating, although in their minds it would have meant freedom from Roman rule. We now know that Jesus rules from a spiritual Jerusalem over a spiritual or antitypical Israel. To this very specific question, Jesus answers that they had no right to get knowledge of such things, that right belonging exclusively to the Father. To…

The Nature of God’s Son: Who Cast Down Satan and When?

…at October, 1914, the battle must have taken place then or shortly thereafter. But what about the ensuing “woe to the earth and the sea”? For Witnesses, the woe starts with the First World War, then continues with more wars, pestilences, famines and earthquakes. In short, because the devil was angry, he caused much of the bloodshed of the 20th century. Additionally, the phrase “they conquered him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their witness” must apply to Jehovah’s Witnesses from 1914 forward. The problems start right away with this interpretation. First, according…

…the hope to also be sons of God along with the Jewish Christians. At least 3 scholars[vii] have highlighted possible evidence[viii] to support the idea that Xerxes was a co-ruler with his father Darius I (the Great) for 10 years, and that Artaxerxes I ruled 10 years longer (to his 51st regnal year instead of the traditional 41 years assigned). Under conventional chronology this moves Artaxerxes 20th year from 445 BC to 455 BC, which adding 69*7 = 483 years, brings us to 29 AD. However, this suggestion of a 10-year co-rulership is very much disputed and not accepted by…

Again, the Sixth Amendment provides for public trial by jury (Witnesses don’t allow that) notification of criminal accusations (Witnesses don’t allow that either) the right to confront the accuser (very often disallowed as well) the right to obtain witnesses (allowed but with many restrictions) and the right to retain counsel (very much disallowed by Witness leadership). As a matter of fact, if you walk…

Keep Your Eyes on the Big Issue

…like “rulership” and “government” turn up about a dozen times each, but mostly in reference to worldly rulerships and governments. They are not tied to a single scripture that speaks of God’s sovereignty, or rulership, or government being vindicated, exonerated, or justified. The idea of God’s sovereignty as a core or central issue in the Bible started with John Calvin. It was modified under the teaching of Jehovah’s Witnesses. The question is, have we got it wrong? Is the argument used to defeat Trinitarians and believers in the immortal soul coming back to bite us on the backside? Some might…

My Experience with Jehovah’s Witnesses

My name is Sean Heywood. I am 42 years old, gainfully employed, and happily married to my wife, Robin, for 18 years. I am a Christian. In short, I am just a regular Joe. Although I was never baptized into the Jehovah’s Witness’ organization, I have had a life-long relationship with it. I went from believing that this organization was God’s arrangement on earth for his pure worship to becoming totally disillusioned with it and its teachings. My reasons for finally breaking my connection with Jehovah’s Witnesses is the story that follows: My parents became Witnesses in the late 1970’s….

…ready for appointment to serve in an administrative capacity in the “new earth.” (ip-1 chap. 25 pp. 332-334 par. 8 The King and His Princes) Since verse 1 says that the princes rule for justice, we must conclude that elders are to rule. If one rules, one is a governor, a leader, a ruler. This means that congregation elders are rulers or leaders. Yet Jesus tells us that we are to be called neither “Teacher” nor “Leader”. How can we weave that particular Bible truth into our web? Of course, if we discard the teaching that 1914 is the start…

The Watchtower Makes Its Submission to the Royal Commission

“two witness rule” because “the circumstances are a witness“. That is, WT asserted that in Deuteronomy, the circumstantial evidence would effectively act as a second witness. In theory, while discussing theological interpretations, this sounds great. In practice, it doesn’t work that way at all. How do we know? From the Royal Commission hearings, we know that one of the victims was being abused by her father. Was this a mere matter of hearsay – a one-witness-only case that regrettably could not be reported? No. Not only did the victim come forward, but SO DID the victim’s two younger sisters that…

And that’s…

Identifying True Worship, Part 10: Christian Neutrality

…wants to be a friend of the world is constituting himself an enemy of God.” (James 4:4) You can appreciate why this is so serious when you remember that the Bible points out that the ruler of the world is God’s chief adversary, Satan the Devil.—John 12:31. (tr chap. 14 p. 129 par. 15 How to Identify the True Religion) So, taking a non-neutral stand is equivalent to aligning oneself with the Devil and making oneself an enemy of God. At times, this understanding has been very costly for Jehovah’s Witnesses. For example, we have this news report: “Jehovah’s Witnesses…

Identifying True Worship, Part 12: Love Among Yourselves

Witness that we applied Acts 5:29 to limit our obedience to the superior authorities to commands that do not go against God’s law. I believed that Witnesses obeyed God as ruler rather than men, and so we would never act unlovingly—and shooting someone, or blowing them up would, in most societies, be viewed as a tiny weeny bit unloving. Nevertheless, Jesus’ words do not apply exclusively to the fighting of wars. Are there ways in which Jehovah’s Witnesses obey men rather than God and so fail the test of love toward their brothers and sisters? Before we can answer that,…

Identifying True Worship, Part 5: 1914 – Examining the Chronology

…”70 weeks” prophecy will work in connection with the repair work done by Nehemiah, which took just 52 days, notes a co-rulership between Xerxes and Darius I. They use this to insinuate that the 21-year rule of Xerxes began 10 years earlier during the co-rulership with Darius I. Well, indeed, there was a co-rulership, currently ignored by the revised chronology. But what we also learn is that Darius began to build at Persepolis in his 4th year. Other documents indicate a palace was built at Babylon for Xerxes which took two years. Problem is, Darius only finished one building at…

WT Study: Loyally Supporting Christ’s Brothers

…reason we continue to claim that the 1923 understanding of the Sheep and Goats parable is from God is that we haven’t changed it yet. Paragraph 4 continues: “The Watch Tower of October 15, 1923…presented sound Scriptural arguments that limited the identity of Christ’s brothers to those who would rule with him in heaven, and it described the sheep as those who hope to live on earth under the rule of Christ’s Kingdom.” One has to wonder why these “sound Scriptural arguments” are not reproduced in this article. After all, the October 15, 1923 issue of The Watchtower has not…

Deadly Theology by Barbara J Anderson (2011)

…whenever it is feasible. Accordingly, there are fewer and fewer problems obtaining medical treatment for Jehovah’s Witnesses. And, moreover, the Witnesses believe they are being obedient to God’s law on blood. Shewfelt said the medical profession is becoming increasingly willing to abide by the Witnesses’ beliefs, etc. Well, it’s obvious why—Jehovah’s Witnesses are not having problems with the medical profession because the medical profession is giving them blood in the form of fractions, which, incidentally, is the way blood is normally given these days. See the deceit behind Witness representatives’ statements? This is how it goes no matter whether the…

Salvation, Part 5: The Children of God

…reign of Jesus Christ. While it is true they teach a second chance for the dead, it is also true that the living who survive to Armageddon get no such second chance. Witnesses preach that of the billions of men, women, children, infants, and babes-in-arms that survive to Armageddon all will die eternally, unless they convert to the JW faith.[iv] So the doctrine of Jehovah’s Witnesses is very much a “one-chance doctrine” of salvation, and the additional teaching that those already dead will be resurrected allows the JW leadership to effectively hold the dead hostage for the living. If Witnesses…

“I Myself Will Search for My Sheep”

…our brothers and sisters, and we love them. In essence what makes one a JEHOVAH’S witness basically is witnessing about Jehovah most times formally as directed by the Governing Body. Since informal witnessing will be frowned upon if one were to go that way all the time. When a JW failed to report for 6 months. It is as good as an INACTIVE JEHOVAH’S WITNESS. A Jehovah’s witness who reports regularly at the end of the month and fail to attend meetings in six months is VERY MUCH ACTIVE PUBLISHER while a JEHOVAH’S witness who attends meetings regularly but don’t…

My Awakening after 30 years of deception, Part 2: Awakening

…fails” to clarify his doubts about the organization’s teachings, failed prophecies, and handling of sexual abuse of minors. For my part, I always tried to behave as a Christian. I was baptized at 12 years of age and went through the same pressures as many young witnesses, such as not celebrating birthdays, not singing the national anthem, not swearing allegiance to the flag, as well as morality issues. I remember one time I had to ask permission at work to get to meetings early, and my boss asked me, “Are you a Jehovah’s Witness?” “Yes,” I replied proudly. “You are…

…and dangerous thing to do. Fair enough. If that’s the way it is, then that’s the way it is. However, only God can make that appointment, correct. Only Jehovah God can bear witness to that appointment. That even applied to Jesus, so it definitely would apply to any imperfect man or group of men. “If I alone bear witness about myself, my witness is not true. 32 There is another that bears witness about me, and I know that the witness which he bears about me is true. 33 YOU have dispatched men to John, and he has borne witness

Examining Matthew 24, Part 2: The Warning

Examining Matthew 24, Part 2: The Warning

…would like you to consider this: Up to this point, Jesus has yet to answer the question the disciples put to him. He has spoken about wars, earthquakes, famines, pestilences, false prophets, false Christs, persecutions, and bearing witness even before rulers, but he has given them no sign. Over the past 2,000 years, have there not been wars, earthquakes, famines, pestilences? From Jesus day down to ours, have not false prophets and false anointed ones or Christs misled many? Have not true disciples of Christ been persecuted for the past two millennia, and have they not born witness before all…

‘Mankind’s hope for the future. Where will it be?’ – A Scriptural Examination – Part 5

…non-ambiguous translation in verse 10 would be “upon the earth”. Indeed, a very large proportion of other bible translations have the phrase “rule as kings on the earth”. (Biblehub shows 25 of 28 translations have “on” or “upon”, only 3 have “over”, yet these are all translations made by translators who believe they will go to heaven.) Revelation 11:12-13 is part of the vision about the two Witnesses. Speaking about the two witnesses it says: “And after the three and a half days spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet, and great fear…

Is the Governing Body Knowingly Deceiving Us over 607 B.C.E.? (Part 1)

…his sixth year. When the Neo-Babylonian Period was revised, the entire six-year rule of Darius the Mede was removed since he and Cyrus conquered Babylon together. Theextremebiblicist Question? How long did Nebuchadnezzar II rule? The business documents say he ruled for 43 years. But the Bible says he ruled for 45 years. How so? Because Jehoichin was deported on the very last day of the 8th year of Nebuchadnezzar II. (2 Kings 24:12) That means the 1st year of Zedekiah began on the 1st day of the 9th year of Nebuchadnezzar. Thus there was an 8-year difference in their reigns….

Should We Obey the Governing Body

One of our readers drew my attention to a blog article which I think reflects the reasoning of most Jehovah’s Witnesses. The article begins by drawing a parallel between the self-declared ‘non-inspired, fallible’ Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses and other groups that are also “not inspired nor infallible”. It then draws the conclusion that “opposers claim that since the governing body is not ‘inspired or infallible’ we do not have to follow any direction coming from them. Yet, those same people willingly obey the laws created by a non “inspired or infallible” Government.” (sic) Is this sound reasoning? No, it…

Examining the Trinity: Part 1, What does history teach us?

…similar to what we see in Jehovah’s Witnesses trying so hard to get away from the Trinity that they go to the other extreme. Witnesses make Jesus into just an angel, albeit an archangel, and these other groups make him into a human, never having preexisted. both are necessary…well, not necessary…but both are reactions to, I think, the Trinity doctrine, but overreacting; going too far the other way. Jim: That’s right, and the Witnesses had done something over a period of time. Now, when I was young man in the Jehovah’s Witnesses. There was no doubt that there was great…

…aspect of the kingdom) or something else (not often). Conclusion ? What they witnessed to is what they had seen already, just as any credible witness in court is asked to say what he or she witnessed, not what he/she heard someone else speak about. This is what Isaiah also speaks about when he says “You are my witnesses”, namely the nation as a whole could witness about what Jehovah had done. They and we can only witness about the future to the extent that we can show from the Bible what God will do . I do not think…

…claim to be one of Jehovah’s Witness, but to truly bear witness about the Almighty God of the universe, we need the type of insight and knowledge that comes only from Him. Being called a Witness of Jehovah and bearing witness about Jehovah are two entirely different things in most cases. The fact is, the way to bear witness about Jehovah in the Christian era is to bear witness about Jesus. That is Jehovah’s way. (See WT Study: “You Will Be Witnesses of Me”) Living as Christians Once again the “Living as Christians” portion of the midweek meeting starts with…

How Can We Prove When Jesus Became King?

If one asked most practicing Jehovah’s Witnesses the question, “When did Jesus become King?”, most would immediately reply “1914”.[i] That would then be the end of the conversation. However, there is a possibility that we could assist them to reappraise this view by approaching the question from a different starting point, by asking the question “Have you ever thought about how you could prove to others that Jesus became King in 1914?” First, we need to find some common ground. So initially we could ask the question, “What scriptures establish that there would be a King whose rule would be…

Examining Matthew 24, Part 13: The Parable of the Sheep and the Goats

…least ones, YOU did not do it to me.’ And these will depart into everlasting cutting-off, but the righteous ones into everlasting life.” (Matthew 25:31-46 NWT Reference Bible) This is a very important parable for the theology of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Remember, they preach that only 144,000 individuals will go to heaven to rule with Christ. The Governing Body members are the most prominent part of this group of spirit-anointed Christians, since they claim to be the Faithful and Discreet Slave appointed by Jesus himself just 100 years ago. The Governing Body teaches that the rest of Jehovah’s Witnesses are the…

We Will Go With You

…attention to them and his loud mouth served only to contribute to the persecution of JWs by the Nazi regime. Had he simply left matters alone, things probably would have gone much better for the Witnesses in Germany. Then there is the inconsistent “direction” from the Organization with regard to neutrality and military service. In the US, a Witness youth that was drafted was expected to go to prison, instead of accepting peaceful alternative service, such as working in a civilian hospital. My own father, and most of my uncles, went to prison, and I fully expected that I would…

The Greater Korah

…Pharisees said to him: “You bear witness about yourself; your witness is not true.”” (Joh 8:13) His answer was: “. . .Also, in your own Law it is written: ‘The witness of two men is true.’ 18 I am one who bears witness about myself, and the Father who sent me bears witness about me.”” (Joh 8:17, 18) There were those among his accusers who had heard God’s voice speak from heaven acknowledging Jesus as his son. There were also the miracles he performed to prove he had God’s backing. Likewise, Moses had an unbroken string of prophetic fulfillments and…

…course and moral standards. “He might also influence well-meaning family members to discourage us from attending meetings. (Matthew 10:36)” Once again speculation is at play as to whether he has influenced family members to discourage our meeting attendance. Many factors can be at play such as: the closeness of the family members, and how pedantic the Witness may be at attending every meeting when the non Witness family may want to do some activity with them, All these factors have a bearing on the attitude of non Witness family members. You may have noticed “can” twice and “might” in bold….

Vindicating Jehovah’s Sovereignty

…that one is innocent until proven guilty. Therefore, it did not fall to Jehovah God to disprove Satan’s accusations. The onus was completely upon Satan to prove his case. Jehovah has given him over 6,000 years to do so, and to date, he has failed utterly. In addition, there is another serious flaw with this illustration. It ignores totally the vast heavenly family that Jehovah could call upon to bear witness to the righteousness of his rulership. Billions of angels had already been benefiting for billions of years under God’s rule when Adam and Eve rebelled. Based on Merriam-Webster, “to…

Join us for the 2021 Memorial of Christ’s Death

…that point in the description of this video. Again, suffice it to say that Rutherford was creating a clergy and laity class. The other sheep are a secondary class of Christian, and continue to be so down to this day. This laity class must obey all the dictates and commands issued by the priestly class, the anointed class, comprising in its leadership the governing body. Now to the third question: “Why don’t most Jehovah’s Witnesses partake?” Obviously, if only the 144,000 can partake and 144,000 is a literal number, then what you do with the millions of Jehovah’s Witnesses who…

Re-establishing the Christian Congregation: What Constitutes Honorable Marriage?

…been in compliance with the law of the land and greatly facilitated the immigration process after which we could have gotten legally married in Canada, which was a requirement at the time since we were Jehovah’s Witnesses governed by the rules of Nathan Knorr. The point of all this is to demonstrate that there are no hard and fast rules, as we once taught to believe by the Organization of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Instead, we must evaluate each situation on the basis of the circumstances guided by the principles laid down in scripture, foremost of which is the principle of love….

Called Out of Darkness

…voices were being drowned out. (Read Matthew 13:24, 25, 37-39.) They truly were in Babylonian captivity! – par. 9 Something not mentioned in the article—probably because it needs no mention among Jehovah’s Witnesses—is that getting out of Babylon the Great is achieved only by becoming a Jehovah’s Witness. If God chose and anointed Christians while still in Babylon the Great in the 19th century who subsequently got out of the Great Harlot by become Bible Students (now Jehovah’s Witnesses), then does it not follow that he continues to do so? The Bible urges Christians this way: “Get out of her,…

WT Study: 100 Years of Kingdom Rule – How Does It Affect You?

…to a status above Jehovah. I could have gone on with my limited but clear proofs from the bible, but felt I would estrange my sister forever from me…….. menrov Hi Umbertoecho, I am asking myself the same question. I guess it all started when the name Jehovah’s witnesses was introduced. With that name, it is implied we all are providing witnesss by guidance of Jehovah and as such, the organization gave themselves the role of “intermediair” between the witnesses and Jehovah. Most peculiar of course if you follow what is written about the role of Jesus. Anyway, bottom line, I…

“I Have Hope Toward God”

…has to establish a “resurrection to heaven”, because it then wants us to believe in two more to the earth. The resurrection of Jesus was the first of that sort, and it undoubtedly is first in importance. (Acts 26:23) He is not, though, the only one promised to be resurrected to heaven as a spirit creature. Jesus assured his faithful apostles that they would rule with him in heaven. (Luke 22:28-30) – par. 15 Do you see any proof offered here that the apostles would rule with Jesus in heaven? Luke 22:28-30 doesn’t provide it. True, Jesus went to heaven,…

I’m Not Worthy

…neither group needs to be in heaven to be in the “temple”. They are all on earth. As you say, not everyone can be a ruler, because someone has to be the subjects; otherwise the rulers would not be needed. That is a correct assumption. 7. The ransom was indeed for humans. Both the rulers and those being ruled are humans on earth. 8. The characterization of human rulers being taken to heaven as a “loving provision” is false and is utter nonsense. God and Christ do not NEED humans to help them rule mankind. God tells us, ‘who is…

Examining Matthew 24, Part 1: The Question

Examining Matthew 24, Part 1: The Question

…let’s try to get it right this time. When Young’s Literal Translation as well as the New World Translation by Jehovah’s Witnesses render the Greek word, parousia, as “presence” they are being literal. I believe Jehovah’s Witnesses are doing this for the wrong reason. They are focusing on the common usage of the word, which literally means “being beside” (HELPS Word-studies 3952) Their doctrinal bias would have us believe that Jesus has been invisibly present since 1914. To them, this is not the second coming of Christ, which they believe refers to his return at Armageddon. Thus, for Witnesses, Jesus…

Are Jehovah’s Witnesses Blood Guilty Because They Ban Blood Transfusions?

…the individual to consume blood without punishment. This passage is problematic for Witnesses, because it provides an exception to the rule. According to Jehovah’s Witnesses, there is no situation where a blood transfusion is acceptable. Yet here, the law of Moses provides just such an exception. A person who is far from home, out hunting, must still eat to survive. If he has had no success in hunting prey, but comes across a food source, such as a recently dead animal, perhaps one killed by a predator, he is allowed to eat even though it is no longer possible to…

Treasures from Gods Word: “Jehovah Blesses Humility and Punishes Arrogance” Jeremiah 50:29-32 – Babylon would be destroyed for acting arrogantly against Jehovah Israel profaned Jehovah’s name, but he sanctified his name to take away their reproach. This is a warning to us today. We need to ask: Are our actions or the actions of the organization profaning Jehovah’s name? The so called ‘Two Witness rule’ comes to mind. In the Australian Royal High Commission on Child Abuse the transcripts (and YouTube video) show that even a ‘worldly’ lawyer knew the scriptures better on this subject than a member of the…

Identifying the True Religion – Neutrality

…It’s critical to understand that. Why? If John 1:1 really DID reveal a Trinity, it would be an extremely important piece of information. Later, John says that knowing God and His son means everlasting life. How could you “know” them if you didn’t understand their true nature? That being so, why don’t any other gospel writers say the word was God? The Bible holds out a standard of credibility: there should be two or three witnesses to a matter of importance. The Bible follows its own rule, by providing four gospels – four witnesses – to the momentous event of…

“May He…Give Success to All Your Plans”

…about this saying that deviating from the pure message of the Good News would bring reproach and condemnation. (Gal 1:6-9) So we won’t argue the point that a Witness would make in condemning the preaching of other religions as invalid due to their false doctrines. However, doesn’t the brush paint all surfaces? Are Jehovah’s Witness making true disciples of Jesus Christ? Do Witness converts view Jesus in the proper way, as he is represented in Scripture? Are they preaching the same Good News that Jesus and the first century Christians preached? Since this is a Watchtower study article review, we’ll…

Have Jehovah’s Witnesses Reached the Tipping Point?

Have Jehovah’s Witnesses Reached the Tipping Point?

Greetings, Meleti Vivlon here. Has the Organization of Jehovah’s Witnesses reached a tipping point? A recent event in my locale has caused me to think this is the case. I live only a five-minute drive from the Canada branch office of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Georgetown, Ontario, which is just outside of the GTA or Greater Toronto Area which has a population of close to 6 million. A few weeks back, all the elders in the GTA were summoned to a meeting at a local Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. They were told that 53 congregations in the GTA would be…

Do Jehovah’s Witnesses believe in Jesus?

…bore God’s name and reminded the people that “Jehovah is salvation” – the meaning of the name Jesus. Thus they were a people for God’s name and were called by God’s name. Anonymous The fact that there are so many scriptures in the NT that refer to Christians as Witnesses of Jesus and bearing Witness to Jesus, while Jehovah’s Witnesses focus very little on bearing witness to Jesus is very revealing of the fact that Jehovah’s Witnesses have their witnessing priorities wrong. Jehovah’s Witnesses, in trying to defend their position, would say that Jesus was a witness of Jehovah and…

If, then, we are children, we are also heirs: heirs indeed of God, but joint heirs with Christ, provided we suffer together that we may also be glorified together.” How does “the spirit itself bear(s) witness with our spirit that we are God’s children”? One of the fruits of the…

The Role of Women in the Christian Congregation (Part 6): Headship! It’s not what you think it is.

…power of life and death that the evil slave assumes for himself. In the 1970s, Jehovah’s Witnesses in the African nation of Malawi suffered rape, death, and the loss of property because the men of the Governing Body made a rule telling them they could not buy a party card which was required by law in a one-party state. Thousands fled the country and lived in refugee camps. One cannot imagine the suffering. About the same time, the same Governing Body allowed Jehovah’s Witness brothers in Mexico to buy their way out of military service by purchasing a government card….

What Prevents Me from Getting Baptized?

…hold back from baptism. The fact that two experiences are given about lack of confidence due to different causes, suggests that a lack of confidence among Witnesses or Witness youths is a common problem. Many adult Witnesses born to Witness parents often still suffer from a lack of confidence for most, if not all, of their lives. In the author’s experience, it is caused by the type of negative teaching received at meetings, whereby one is conditioned to think of oneself as a sinner unworthy of life and that everlasting life will only be possible by being the very best…

The Messianic Prophecy of Daniel 9:24-27 – Part 7

…Temple and Jerusalem being stopped. (See “The Antiquities of the Jews”, Book XI, chapter 2, paragraph 2). It, therefore, makes sense to identify the Ahasuerus of verse 6 with Cambyses (II). As he only reigned 8 years, he cannot be the Ahasuerus of the book of Esther who ruled at least 12 years (Esther 3:7). Besides, the king, variously known as Bardiya/Smerdis/the Magi, ruled less than a year, leaving very little time for such a letter to be sent and a reply received, and clearly cannot match the Ahasuerus of Esther. Ezra 4:7 continues “Also, in the days of Ar·ta·xerxʹes,…

Watchtower Article: When Did God’s Kingdom Begin Ruling? –Part 1

…is really speaking about earthly political rulership. Daniel 4 was making the point that God is ultimately in charge of political rulership of earth’s inhabitants and he can appoint any ruler over them that he desires, to express his rulership through that leader. Would God appoint a ruler in the “kingdom of mankind” before he is ready for that ruler to actively rule people? What would be the point of it? Such a ruler would impotent, a ruler in name only. Is Jesus the political ruler in the “kingdom of mankind”? Is Jesus ruling over earth’s affairs today? According to…

…work, but by the end of the thousand years, it will be achieved. Unfortunately, that is not the message that the world, or “ordered system”, of Jehovah’s Witnesses is willing to preach. _________________________________________ [i] Witnesses believe that only they are preaching the good news of the Kingdom, so only if a person responds to the message Witnesses preach can he be saved. [ii] The NWT renders this, “over the earth”. However, the majority of translations render it either as “on” or “upon” in line with the meaning of the Greek word, epi. [iii] Witnesses teach that faithful Other Sheep will…

Jehovah’s Witnesses and Blood – Part 2

…No Blood doctrine has a sliver lining for the medical profession. It is undeniable that great strides in bloodless surgery can be attributed to Jehovah’s Witnesses. It is likely viewed by some as a godsend for surgeons and their medical teams all over the world, providing a steady stream of patients. Part 3 of this series examines how it is that medical professionals could view their Jehovah’s Witness patients as a godsend. It is not because they view the doctrine as biblical nor that adherence to the doctrine brings God’s blessing. (Download this file: Jehovahs Witnesses – Blood & Vaccines,…

…death at Armageddon. That’s just another JW misdirection to hide the fact that all Christians are called to be children of God. The Seventh-day Adventists began about 15 years before Russell and do not go door-to-door in any meaningful way. Nevertheless, they have outstripped the growth of Jehovah’s Witnesses and support missionaries in over 200 lands. The best way to accomplish a Christian ministry is to live an exemplary Christian life and take the opportunity to bear witness to Jesus with whomever will listen. What witnesses are doing is preaching to other Christians in an effort to get them to…

…that can help you to discern right from wrong.” Where is the support for such an assertion? Where is proof that Jehovah uses one Organization or any organization for that matter? Have Jehovah’s witnesses made a comprehensive comparison of all religious groups, their beliefs, and growth patterns to be able to say this with certainty? The simple answer is No! Witnesses have very limited discussions with other denominations unless when they are trying to convert those people to JWs and do not attend or listen to any non-Witness religious discussions or ceremonies. Paragraph 16 says “Learn to love and support…

All of them got baptized as Jehovah’s Witnesses. All of them have since stopped believing in WT, even before I did. And they all voluntarily left without getting disfellowshipped or. through formal dissociation. After 8 years as a bachelor I married another Witnesses sister. She is a staunch WT believing Witness. …never even finish school. That was 65 years ago, and Witness leadership is still saying that Armageddon is “imminent”. I learned of Jehovah God and Jesus Christ from the Witnesses, but my faith does not depend on that religion. In fact, since I left in 2015, it is stronger than it has ever been. That isn’t to say that leaving Jehovah’s Witnesses has been easy. An outsider may have trouble understanding the emotional trauma a member of the Organization faces upon leaving. In my case, I had served as an elder for over 40 years. All my friends were Jehovah’s…

Today many elderly witnesses regret not having children (which is not a scriptural requirement, but a matter of conscience) because they were told not to because Armageddon was very near. Many find themselves unable to provide adequately for their families (which is a scriptural requirement) because of obeying a man-made rule not to educate themselves more than the minimum legal requirement (which is not a scriptural requirement) again because Armageddon was very near. Understanding Paul’s reference to headship In the congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses from which I came, women do not pray nor do they teach. Any teaching part that a woman might have on the platform in the Kingdom Hall – be it a demonstration, an interview, or a student talk – is always done under what Witnesses call the “headship arrangement”, with a man in charge of…
