My Interview with famous Canadian "apostate" and renown author James Penton

– posted by J_Penton
James Penton lives only an hour from me.  How could I not take advantage of his experience and historical research.  In this first video, Jim will explain why the Organization felt so threatened by him that their only option seemed to be disfellowshipping.  This was rare in the early days of the Governing Body back in 1980, though the groundswell of departing Witnesses has made it all too common these days.  The true nature and motivation of the Governing Body is revealed by their actions, something that Jim will make plainly evident as he recounts his own personal history with them.

The books written by James are a valuable source of information to understand not only the current beliefs of Jehovah's Witnesses but also the cultural fabric that makes up the social dynamics of the organisation.

A read through of one of his books Apocalypse Delayed I found was very insightful in understanding the present view the organisation has of women in general. It is interesting to read how influential Russell and Rutherford were in this regard.

Both of these men had failed marriages, both had a cloud of suspicion cast upon them with regards to their conduct being improper towards the opposite sex and one had a son who did not want to know him or his "religion". Both had misogynistic ideas that they wove into their theology and made it doctrine for others to follow. Showing courtesy to a women, mothers day and a whole lot of other ideas are clearly brought to light in James book and the events at the time they were incorporated into WT theology.

His books are a go to for anyone who wants to see the developmental stages of JW from day dot to today. Reading James books I think, dispels any notion that Jehovah and Jesus are using or guiding the organization and it's clear that the Org and its unique teachings are just man made constructs based on the whims and notions of certain individuals at any given time that became doctrines of men for others to follow.

Thanks for bringing the interview Eric

    Love to all from Alithia.

Great interview. I wonder how he was able to wake up more than 80 people?! That's a huge number. If all witnesses waking up could do the same or even get a few people to wake up, Watchtower would be in big trouble.

Great interview! I remember seeing his books on Google as I was doing my initial research on Ray Franz.

I think it was courageous of Mr. Penton to follow his conscience and as I understand how difficult it must have been for him. I was never a Witness but I believed what was being taught but as I started checking things out and understanding more, I realized that the Witnesses’ interpretation of their was slanted towards their religion not towards God

Rejecting a religion does not make you less of a Christian. It is God’s Word, through His Anointed Son Christ Jesus, we need to honour and obey. I always think of Luke 9:49-50 “In response John said: “Instructor, we saw someone expelling demons by using your name, and we tried to prevent him, because he is not following with us.”*u 50 But Jesus said to him: “Do not try to prevent him, for whoever is not against you is for you.”
